Spring is Here! Market Hours Expanding, New Vendor Spots Open!

Finally, the warm weather has arrived and personally, I can not wait for Market to start!! Our first day, June 2nd will be here before we know it! Just a quick reminder our hours are 9 until 2 this year! We hope the extended hours bring out even more of you, our lovely neighbors, to support our local farmers and businesses.
To coordinate with our new market hours, our Steering Committee Meetings will now be held from 2:30-4:30. They will still be in the upper room of McCleary’s Public House on Front Street. Our next meeting is this Sunday, so feel free to attend the public portion from 2:30-3:30 if you are interested.
Lastly, we are still accepting new vendor applications so spread the word. Is there someone you’d like to see selling at market? Let us know or pass on our information  The more the merrier! With your help, we can make the market even greater.

Get your calenders ready!

***Market’s first day is June 2nd and will run to the end of October. Market will be held each Sunday from 9-2. We can’t wait!!

***Our Steering Committee will meet this Sunday the 10th from 1-3 pm at McCleary’s here in Marietta. All our welcome to attend.

***If you are able to attend the town’s borough meeting Tuesday the 12th at 7:00 pm, we would appreciate a showing of support while we ask the council for a shed in Flanagan Park!

Market Manager Position Available

JOB OPENING:
Marietta Market is seeking a Market Manager. This will be a part-time paid position, approximately 8 – 10 hours/week from June 2 through the end of October, with some hours required during the rest of the year, primarily pre-season.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
♪ Coordinates all tasks throughout the season, with particular focus on vendor issues
♪ Candidates must have strong organizational and communication skills
♪ Responsible for set-up, maintenance, and tear-down on all market days; if unable to attend a market day, it is the Market Manager’s responsibility to schedule a substitute from within the Market Committee, and ensure a seamless and well-coordinated transition
♪ Checks in weekly with current vendors to establish and maintain clear communication between the Market Committee and vendors
♪ Collects all dues from vendors and keeps up-to-date records of fees paid and owed; updates Business Managers weekly of all transactions
♪ Responsible for communicating with vendors who violate the Vendor Agreement
♪ Updates Marietta Market website weekly regarding vendor products and attendance
♪ Works with the Events Coordinator to be fully aware of upcoming events and communicate them to vendors and shoppers via word-of-mouth and posting on the Market bulletin and chalk boards
♪ Communicates directly with the Business Managers if any business or Borough matters occur during Market hours
♪ Present a full report at each Committee Meeting of weekly Market activities and needs
♪ Attends all Market Committee and volunteer meetings
♪ Works with Vendor Recruiter to organize applications, Dept. of Ag certifications, scheduling, and contact information
♪ Maintains a contact list of all vendor information and provides updates to the Committee via hard copy and the Market gmail account
♪ Will create and maintain a phone tree of Vendors, Volunteers, and Committee members at the beginning of the season, to be utilized in the event of Market cancellation
♪ Responsible for making the final decision on whether Market will be canceled due to dangerous weather
♪ Responsible for timely updating of Market facebook page and website in the event of cancellation
♪ Point person for all Market suggestions / complaints
♪ Develop and maintain a system of recording daily market flow, health of financial transactions, and vendor attendance.

2013 Meetings!

Hello Friends!

A wonderful New Year to you. We hope that your year is filled to the brim with blessings and local food (though maybe this is the same thing)!
A new year means a new market season and we are excited to begin our planning. We will hold our first meeting in the upstairs room of McCleary’s Public House in Marietta on January 13th from 1-2:30. Anyone who desires is welcome to attend! The Steering Committee will meet privately from 2:30-3:00.
If you wish to participate as a Steering Committee Member, we will be voting on the positions of Chair, Secretary, Vendor Relations, Treasure, and Operations. If you wish to participate as a volunteer for music, events, or outreach, feel free to come and make yourself known as well! If you are interested but unable to attend or would like further information, please feel free to email me.
Our January meeting will also cover approving the Vendor Agreement & bylaws, reviewing our 2013 financial obligations, and discussions of our Market Manager.
All of our remaining meetings will also be held at McCleary’s on the second Sunday of March, April, July, September, and November from 1-2:30. Again, the Steering Committee will meet privately from 2:30-3:00. If you wish to add something to the agenda, please make that known one week prior to the meeting.
McCleary’s is graciously donating their space so that we can have a consistent place to meet and to accommodate all those who wish to attend. We plan to show our thanks by enjoying a snack or beverage after the meetings, so feel free to join us for our social hour as well!
